3 Mistakes That Can Really Hurt Your Digital Marketing Campaign

A company’s digital marketing presence is its most valuable asset. It’s what keeps the site relevant and lively on top of being easy to access and navigate. Digital marketing in 2020 will more than likely see a few substantial changes, but let’s face it, this happens every year! If you’re planning on tackling your company’s digital marketing efforts on your own, then expect some significant challenges to hurdle through.

Constantly managing your website and tacking on content and social media marketing seem like impossible feats on your own, but it is possible. And, in all honesty, we strongly suggest having us take care of that. But if you do plan on doing things your way, there are three mistakes you should avoid in order to prevent hurting your digital marketing campaign.

Never Neglect Your Website

If you’re a business owner, then chances are that you have little to no time putting a website together. And if you have already, it probably looks nothing like what you want. But, hey, as long as it serves its purpose telling people who you are and what your company does, right?

Wrong.

A fully functioning website needs to be cared for and monitored. And if you think that putting one together on the fly is enough, then you’re in for a rude awakening. Search engine optimization is needed to help get your website found, and our team knows what it takes to get it ranking high on Google and other search engines.

Don’t Write for the Sake of Writing

Our boss, John King, always tells us, “Don’t write for the sake of writing.” You may have read in the past that websites need a constant flow of content to remain relevant. And although this is very true, the type of content you’re writing is what really matters.

If you’re creating content for your site through blogs or articles, then don’t write for the sake of it. This means that it’s important to keep your content:

  • Relevant
  • Informative
  • Engaging
  • Interesting
  • Original

If you’re coming up with topics that you specifically find interesting, then you need to realize that the layperson on the internet may not. This is where creativity comes in. Think about what your site’s visitors want to read. What will keep them coming back? What will keep them around longer while they read? And there isn’t anything wrong with doing some research of your own either. Check out what some bigger companies or competitors are doing with their sites and what they’re writing.

Never Act Out of Line on Social Media

If you plan on utilizing the many great things that social media like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter can do for your business, then one major takeaway is to always be personable. Have you ever read stories of companies that have come off as rude or distant with customers on social media? If so, this is a lesson to not follow in their footsteps.

If a customer reaches out to complain about a product or service of yours, don’t blow them off, and never, ever be rude. Social media etiquette is everything these days. A response that comes off as being rude or condescending will only make things worse. With customers, be positive, show respect, and always be ready to kill them with kindness.
