Helping AACT Increase Voter Turnout in the Digital Era

The Internet has captivated billions of people worldwide. With event announcements and photo and video sharing, it’s no wonder that so many make connections on a daily basis. Companies and organizations also take advantage of what the Internet can provide in order to make positive changes in the lives of so many.

The Advocacy Alliance Center of Texas (AACT) needed a team of collaborators, creators, designers and marketing gurus to perfectly translate what they represented in the digital world. We were more than happy to help them achieve that goal.

About AACT

For over 50 years, South Texas has sat below the state average for voter turnout. To help improve voter registration and turnout in the region, a group of concerned local leaders came together to form AACT, a nonprofit and nonpartisan organization whose primary goal is to serve as a uniting “table” for all and raise the voter turnout rate to 65%. By accomplishing this, the local community has the opportunity to make a positive and major impact on job growth, healthcare and education through voting.

Creating a Nonpartisan Website

The foundation of a good organization starts with an outstanding website. We assessed what they already had and kept many key components. From there, all we had to do was improve.

“AACT already had key components on their original website that worked well for them. It was modern, but still looked very thrown together. I knew that their website had potential. I was able to clean things up, rearrange images and put my own creative spin on things to make it look polished and clean,” said Jaime Villagomez, our web designer.

What the online world tends to rely on is the angle to convey messages. With AACT’s nonpartisan stance, our team had a clear vision to help translate it.

“AACT is unbiased,” Jaime continued. “Their website had to reflect that. Their main goal is to help people register to vote and inform them on what to expect during the voting process. Convincing people who to vote for was never a factor with them or us. I believe we succeeded in that respect.”

“AACT was a very fun build to create. I’m personally a strong believer in the political process of our country and, as a result, I wanted to ensure that users were able to find information about registering as easily as possible. For this reason, I decided to implement a footer menu on the mobile version of the site. This makes sure that users will be able to get in contact with AACT by the touch of a button,” added Cesar Gonzalez, our lead developer.

Planning a Social Media Campaign

Social media is a giant that has over 2.3 billion active users. In order to conquer and optimally utilize this monster, carefully planning out a cohesive strategic game plan is essential. Deciding who to target and which social media platforms to use are factors that should be carefully and seriously considered.

Twitter sees 100 million user logins daily with one of the highest demographics being Hispanics between the ages of 18 and 49. Instagram has 400 million monthly active users between 18 and 29. Facebook takes in an additional 500,000 new users every day. That’s six new profiles created every second, with Hispanics being the largest percentile between the ages of 18 and 65.

In the coming weeks, our marketing team will strategize with AACT to begin a collaborative social media campaign. Follow AACT’s social media channels on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to see the exciting ways we engage viewers on the power of voting!
